Soothing Herbal Clay & Salt Bath Soak
There’s something deeply healing about sinking into a warm bath infused with herbs, salts, and clay. Beyond simple relaxation, this bath soak is designed to nourish the skin, relax tired muscles, ease tension, and support gentle detoxification on a physical level.
On an energetic level, you can really individualise the herbs and essential oils within to suit your needs. Add pine needles for clearing. Mugwort or juniper to aid clarity in dreams. Nettles for nourishment. Rose petals for love. Calendula petals for joy.
Bath rituals have been used for centuries as medicine, for both body and spirit. By combining mineral-rich salts, soothing clays, and special herbs and luxurious oils selected by you, we can create a home spa treatment that not only feels luxurious but also provides deep healing and restorative benefits.
Why These Ingredients?
Epsom Salt – rich in magnesium, it relaxes muscles, relieves aches, and eases stress.
Sea Salt or Himalayan Salt – full of trace minerals to replenish and detoxify the body.
Kaolin or Green Clay – gently draws out impurities while softening and soothing the skin. Kaolin is more gentle and soothing. Green clay is very detoxifying.
Baking Soda – calms irritation, softens water, and balances the skin’s pH.
Dried Herbs – whatever you have growing around you is best! lavender, calendula, nettle, rosemary, pine needles, rose petals... Many herbs bring calming, anti-inflammatory, and skin-healing benefits.
Essential Oils – lavender, sweet orange, lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus enhance relaxation, circulation, and emotional uplift.
Carrier Oils – jojoba or olive oil add deep moisture and protect the skin.
Recipe: Herbal Clay & Salt Bath Soak
This batch makes enough for 5–10 baths depending on how strong you like your soak.
Ingredients:
2 cups Epsom salt
1 cup sea salt or Himalayan salt
1 cup kaolin or green clay or 1/2 cup of each
½ cup baking soda
¼ cup dried herbs, ground (more simply tie a bunch of herbs with string to place into your bath) Grinding the herbs avoid clogging the bath. Or simply add the herb bunch and remove after your bath.
20–30 drops essential oil (lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, whatever you feel most drawn to) You may also leave this out and add in your oils each bath to customise the scent each bath. If you choose to do this, its important to add it to a carrier oil first before adding the essential oil into the bath. Thsi avoids skin irritations.
2–3 tbsp carrier oil (jojoba or olive or a herbal infused oil)
Method:
In a large bowl, combine the salts, clay, baking soda, and dried herbs.
In a small dish, blend the essential oils with the carrier oil.
Pour the oil blend into the dry mixture and stir well to combine.
Transfer to an airtight glass jar and store in a cool, dry place.
To Use:
Add ½–1 cup of the soak to a warm bath. Swirl the water with your hand to help it dissolve, then slip in and relax for 15–30 minutes.
Notice how soft and nourished your skin feels afterwards!
